Firelite
What are the principle advantages to using Firelite?
- Fire-rated to conform to B.S. 476 Part 22 for over 240 minutes
- Easily laminated to conform to B.S. 6206: 1981 Parts A & B
- Used in conjunction with approved systems, will achieve Passive Fire Protection Measures, as detailed in Approved Document B Building Regulations
- Fully tested in a wide range of frames
- Fully tested for use in atria, as well as horizontal and sloped applications
- Withstands temperatures in excess of 1000 degrees Celsius
- Due to the thermal expansion co-efficient being almost zero (10 -6/oC), it remains structurally stable when heated to 800 oC and then doused with cold water. This unique ability to withstand Thermal Shock is important for a number of reasons:
- Where sprinkler systems are fitted or where firefighters attend a fire and hoses are used. The integrity of Firelite will remain intact under these extremes of temperature, but not so other fire rated glasses where thermal expansion will take place
- Transparent fire protection areas are important to the emergency services and to a buildings' occupants, as they facilitate fast evacuations
- Preferred for use by installers, as Firelite can be cut on site with a conventional glass cutter much like float glass
- Excellent choice for replacement of wired glass as it is aesthetically pleasing and existing frames may be retained due to 5mm thickness
- May be sandblasted, etched or beveled on one side without affecting fire rating
